Aero-TV: Gleim Works to Reinvent Flight Training With AI Power

Company Rolls Out Multiple Ground Training Solutions for Students and Instructors

Having been a player in the flight training industry for nearly 50 years, Gleim Aviation has seen firsthand how modern technology has changed the game in ground school. The company is ready to take advantage of these resources to help pilots learn with the debut of its AI-powered Gleim DPE tool.

“We’re really looking at reinvesting into technology to help people learn, because there is a pilot shortage,” explained Garrett Gleim, President of Gleim Publications. “There’s a need for pilots, and we’re excited for the future.” The software utilizes AI-powered conversation software to simulate an oral examination. In the app, students speak with a Digital Pilot Examiner (DPE), named Otto, who serves as an instructor to ask checkride-style questions and provide targeted feedback.

Gleim DPE was officially launched at this year’s SUN ‘n FUN aerospace expo, appearing at EAA Oshkosh AirVenture shortly after to introduce its cross-check feature. This allows instructors to track students’ progress and gauge when they will be checkride-ready.

This isn’t Gleim’s only recent development. The company has released its comprehensive Career Pilot Training Logbook, designed down to the bare bones of student pilot endorsements up to Airline Transport Pilot and beyond. Gleim also came out with an FAA-approved flight simulator decked out with X-Plane 12, a high-performance PC, and a dedicated instructor terminal for simple environment manipulation.
