Lancair Adds XM Wx To Columbia Options List

Lancair’s certified aircraft are made for fast and comfortable cross-country travel and accurate, up-to-date weather information is imperative to making this happen. The Lancair Company announced today that it is now offering the new XM WX Satellite Weather system as an option on all new Lancair Columbia 350 and 400 models.

Lancair will offer XM WX as a companion option to its existing weather option, Narrowcast Datalink from Avidyne. Pilots will interface with both systems through the Columbia 350 and 400’s Avidyne Entegra EX5000 Multi-Function Display (MFD). Based on customer feedback, Lancair officials expect that many of their buyers will choose to add both systems to their aircraft.

“Effectively managing weather exposure is one of the most important things a pilot can do to increase flight safety,” said Lancair Vice President Mark Cahill. “We’ve offered Datalink weather as a Columbia option since we introduced the full Avidyne panel and nearly all of our buyers during that time specified it. Our owners tend to use
their aircraft a lot and accurate weather information is critical to them doing so safely.”

Columbia buyers will have added encouragement to spec XM WX when ordering their aircraft as The Lancair Company will throw in the first year’s subscription to the service at no charge.

“We expect all of our customers to subscribe to XM WX and many will take the Narrowcast service as well, particularly those who fly outside the continental U.S.,” said Lancair Sales Manager Rich Belzer. For existing Columbia 350 Datalink, Heads Up Technologies is offering a rebate, which will be available via www.myAvidyne.com.
