NH Sen Ayotte Named Chair Senate Commerce Subcommittee On Aviation

Ayotte Says She Will Advocate For Safer, More Efficient Air Traffic System

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) has been named by new Senate Commerce Committee chair John Thune (R-SD) as the Chair of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Aviation Operations, Safety, and Security. Ayotte was the top Republican on the subcommittee for the past two years, and says she will continue to work across the aisle to create a safer and more efficient air traffic system.

"As Chairman of the Commerce Subcommittee on Aviation, I will continue to be a strong advocate for a safer and more efficient air traffic system," said Senator Ayotte.

The Subcommittee on Aviation Operations, Safety, and Security Subcommittee has jurisdiction over civil aviation, with specific oversight responsibility for the FAA. It controls the authorization levels for all of the FAA's programs and agency's grant making efforts in funding airport infrastructure projects and air traffic control (ATC) facility upgrades.

The Subcommittee also has jurisdiction over oversight of the nation's international infrastructure related to civil aviation as well as domestic aviation security and the majority of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) workforce.
