Pratt & Whitney Canada Announces 'Immediate' Start To CSeries Engine Test

Two 747s Modified To Serve As Test Platforms

Testing is set to begin "immediately" on the Pratt & Whitney Canada engine designed for Bombardier's CSeries aircraft. Company president John Sabbas said in an interview at the Paris Air Show that the testing would begin "certainly in the next month, but hopefully faster."

Dow Jones Newswires reports that testing on the PW1524 geared turbofan engine will initially take place on two specially-modified Boeing 747s. They will also begin testing of the PW800, which is designed for the next generation of large bizjets.

The PW1524 is designed for the CSeries airplanes, though Pratt & Whitney says it will also power the Mitsubishi Regional Jet, as well as a Russian aircraft currently being built which can accommodate as many as 220 passengers.

Testing will be done at the company's Mirabel, Quebec facility.
