Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport Begins $1.5 Million Renovation

Terminal Upgrades To Be Spread Over Four Years

The Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport (KJVL) broke ground Friday morning on a $1,460,000 terminal building renovation project. In total, four development projects will be spread over four years with the intent to enlarge and modernize the 50-year-old general aviation facility.

Airport Director Ron Burdick told the Beloit Daily News “This is an exciting day for the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport, its tenants and its visitors. We are extremely grateful for the funding that the State of Wisconsin is providing, as well as the continued investment from the Rock County Board of Supervisors to ensure that this important transportation resource remains efficient, functional and safe.”

KJVL is owned by Rock County, and serves over 100 GA and corporate aviation clients. It is estimated that the airport will see between 60,000 and 70,000 operations in 2012. The rockcountyalliance.com website says the airport offers vital air connectivity at lower costs than larger commercial airports, and has been in service for over 60 years.

Project I, beginning this year will involve partially demolishing the terminal building's west side and constructing a new exterior shell. Project II will begin next year, and will renovate the terminal's east side and build a new, small addition. Project III starts in 2014 and encompasses mainly interior renovations to administrative spaces, conference rooms, restrooms and a pilot lounge. Project IV will span 2014-2015 and will involve exterior paving and landscaping.

The initial project is funded through an 80/20 cost share agreement between the state and Rock County.
