Says Washington State Is 'The Best Place In The World' To Build
The Airliner
Gov. Chris Gregoire has unveiled a series of action items
intended to ensure the Boeing 737 MAX, expected to support up to
20,000 direct and indirect jobs, is built and manufactured in
Washington state. “There is no question that Washington
state is the best place in the world to build the Boeing 737-MAX
jetliner,” Gregoire said announcing the strategy
Thursday.
Human-Powered Helicopter Developed By University Of Maryland
Engineering Program
The Federation Aeronautique Internationale has certified that
the Clark School's Gamera human-powered helicopter team set world
records earlier this year for flight duration and flight duration
with a female pilot. The FAI certified the 4.2-second flight of May
12, 2011, and the 11.4-second flight of July 13, 2011, which
supersedes the first.
Groups Praise Governor Rick Perry For Industry
Support
For the second time in a week, national aviation organizations
are welcoming a proclamation of November as "General Aviation
Appreciation Month." Governor Rick Perry made the proclamation
recognizing the industry, which according to the Texas Department
of Transportation drives over $14.6 billion in economic activity
and supports over 61,000 jobs across the state.
Oklahoma State Women's Basketball Coach And Assistant Were On
Board
A Piper Cherokee PA-28 went down Thursday fatally injuring all
four people on board. The accident occurred in Perry County, AR
about 1630 CST in a wooded area near the town of Perryville.
Would Prohibit FCC From Spending Federal Funds To Deploy
Company's Technology
An amendment to a bill funding the FCC offered by Senator Pat
Roberts (R-KS) would prohibit the commission from spending
federal funds to deploy LightSquared's 4G broadband technology,
until it can be proven the technology will not interfere with
existing GPS receivers.
Viewers Will Have 'Premium Access' To The Airlines'
Operations
Reality TV seems to be having a love affair with aviation,
though most of the offerings, such as "Flying Wild Alaska", have
looked at operations that but for the series would have been
invisible to the general public. But the genre which all started
with "Survivor" and has produced such "classics" as the "Real
Housewives" franchise is now turning its unblinking electronic eye
to a mainstream airline ... Southwest.
The 27th FAI World Aerobatic Championships will be coming to the
United States in 2013. Members of the FAI Aerobatics Commission met
in Krakow, Poland earlier this month and approved a proposal to
hold the event in Jean, Nevada. The Jean Airport (0L7) is about 25
minutes southwest of the Las Vegas Strip, immediately adjacent to
the Gold Strike Hotel and Casino.
