Reiterates Commitment To Opposing ALL User Fees

Reacting to Wednesday's news reports about user-fee based aviation legislation under consideration by Congress, the Alliance for Aviation Across America released the following statement to ANN.

The Hill newspaper reports the FAA funding reauthorization bill to be introduced before the Senate this week, by Senators Jay Rockefeller and Trent Lott, would phase out a 4.3 cent per gallon tax airlines pay for fuel... while also introducing a new per-trip fee for piston and turbine general aviation pilots who fly under IFR flight plans.

Miles Hilton-Barber landed his plane in Sydney, Australia on Monday. That may not sound so unusual, but for two things: he flew an ultralight 13,500 miles from London... and he's blind.

Stresses Fees Would NOT Be Imposed For Flying Through Terminal Airspace

The National Air Traffic Controllers Association is again protesting a ban by the FAA on banning radios in air traffic control towers. Denver controllers said last week they only learned about a funnel cloud near the airport when someone notified them there had been a tornado warning on television.

Funds Aren't Available For Runway Expansion

The FAA has told the Portage County, OH Airport Authority to work on a more realistic financial and business plan before trying to secure funds for a runway expansion project, and the $1.4 million grant they'd applied for just isn't available this year.

There seems to be some miscommunication between NASA and Russian space agency Roskosmos. The head of the Russian program said recently the United States rejected that agency's proposal for the two countries to work together in returning to the moon.
