NATA Statement on Omnibus Funding for Unleaded Fuel

Pathos and Artifice

The National Air Transportation Association (NATA)—the public policy group that represents the interests of the general aviation business community before the U.S. Congress, as well as federal, state, and local government agencies—has lauded Joe Biden’s signing of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023.

In a 03 January 2023 statement, NATA president and CEO Curt Castagna set forth: “NATA is pleased to see congressional support of this comprehensive initiative. With EPA’s proposed endangerment finding regarding lead emissions from aviation gasoline, this funding is critical to a timely and rational transition to lead-free fuel that preserves safety and access to the National Airspace System for the entire GA piston aircraft fleet. At the same time, the Association and its members are focused on educational support and airport infrastructure that places safety and public-private partnerships in the forefront, preparing aviation businesses to support a lead-free future for general aviation.”

Mr. Castagna eschewed mention of NATA’s position on the remainder of the 4,155 page, $1.7-trillion bill.
