Panama Acquires 4 Embraer A-29 Super Tucano Aircraft

Surveillance And Protection Platform For Air And Naval Service

Panama and Embraer announced the signing of a contract for the purchase of four A-29 Super Tucano aircraft, to be operated as a new surveillance and protection platform by the Panamanian National Air and Naval Service, or SENAN.

The acquisition is in line with SENAN’s program to strengthen and expand operational capacity and is intended to benefit the ongoing national security project in Panama.

With this contract, Panama now becomes the eighth country in Latin America to select the A-29 Super Tucano. It joins Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, and the Dominican Republic as operators of the Super Tucano.

Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security said, "It is an honor for Embraer to see another Latin American country choose the A-29 Super Tucano to leverage its surveillance, reconnaissance and protection capabilities. Panama’s choice of the Super Tucano, a world leader in its category, will certainly serve as a strong ally to support the country in its mission to maintain national sovereignty.”

Currently, 22 air forces operate the Super Tucano worldwide, and the aircraft leads the world in its category with over 600,000 flight hours. Furthermore, additional nations have shown interest in the aircraft due to its combination of flexibility, reliability, availability, robustness, and low operating costs.

Those characteristics enable the aircraft to perform a wide range of missions including air patrol, tactical coordination, ISR, border surveillance, counter-illicit operations, reconnaissance, special missions, air escort, and multi-level pilot training.
