E190F Aims to Meet Growing Air Cargo Demands

Embraer announced on October 10 that its E-Freighter, a conversion of the E190F aircraft, has received full certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This milestone follows its certification with Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) in July 2024.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification is expected to be granted later this year.

Launched in May 2022, the E-Freighter is designed to address the needs of the modern air cargo market. This specifically targets the replacement of older, less efficient aircraft and trade expansion.

The Embraer E190F was unveiled during an employees-only celebration in Sao Jose dos Campos in November 2023. It first achieved flight in April and, shortly after, made its first public appearance at the Farnborough Air Show.

The E190F offers over 40% more volume capacity, 3x range, and up to 30% lower operating costs compared to larger narrow-bodied aircraft. With a maximum structural payload of 13,500 kg, it works to “bridge the gap” between turboprop aircraft and larger freighters.

The E-Freighter is equipped with a U.S. Cargo Systems cargo loading system for improved ground efficiency and balancing. This also received FAA certification in September.

Since its founding in 1969, Embraer has delivered over 9,000 aircraft, establishing itself as a global manufacturer for commercial and executive aviation, defense and security, and agricultural markets.
