Jeff Skiles To Leave EAA

Will Explore Other Opportunities, May Resume Airline Career

In a letter to EAA staff that was forwarded to ANN, EAA Chairman Jack Pelton said that Jeff Skiles will be leaving the organization shortly after AirVenture.

Skiles joined EAA in January 2012 while on a leave of absence from his airline career. Pelton said in the letter that Skiles has decided to explore some new options including a possible return to airline flying after first taking some time with his family.

As Young Eagles co-chairman and as a part of the EAA staff, Jeff’s contributions to the organization's youth and member programs have been substantial. Pelton said EAA especially appreciates all the time he has spent on the road, meeting with EAA members and chapters through the Grassroots Pilot Tours. He will remain a superb resource for the organization, and will continue to write for Sport Aviation.

“It has been a true privilege to be part of the EAA staff, as I was able to meet so many dedicated members and local chapters who are wonderful ambassadors for EAA and aviation,” Skiles said. “I’m also happy that I’ll be able to keep my connections to my friends here at EAA, and continue contributing through my writing and as an EAA volunteer and member.”

Pelton said that a more formal transition plan would be ready after AirVenture, but some decisions have already been made:

  • Rick Larsen will lead the membership and communities areas, allowing us to build on what Jeff’s team has been developing in a smooth fashion. Rick is already deeply involved in program development and implementation that will benefit our members and potential members.
  • Dave Chaimson will add leadership of the marketing and digital teams to his current role as VP of business development. Dave’s extensive marketing background will help make this a seamless transition.
  • Jim DiMatteo will move from staff to contract status in July, reflecting his unique, specific role in AirVenture preparations. Sean Elliott will be leading all air show operations, and Jim will report to Sean.
