Gone West: Ron Scott, Longtime EAA Volunteer Chairman

Passed Away On Thanksgiving Day At The Age Of 82

Ron Scott, who for more than 50 years was involved in multiple facets of the EAA organization while also making a notable contribution to the homebuilt aircraft community, died on Thanksgiving Day at age 82.

Scott was perhaps best known as “Green One,” the longtime chairman of the Communications Center at AirVenture. He marked 50 years of EAA volunteer service in 2010, making him one of the longest-tenured volunteers in the EAA organization. Scott also served on the EAA board of directors for eight years in the 1970s.

After meeting EAA founder Paul Poberezny in 1959, Scott was encouraged to build his airplane, “Ol’ Ironsides,” which became the first aircraft to use fiberglass structurally in a skin-stressed application. Scott was inducted into the Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame in 2013.

Memorial services will be held on December 12 in Mukwonago, Wisconsin. EAA sends its condolences to Scott’s children and family, with our thanks for his five decades of dedication to EAA and its mission.
