The tireless and dedicated manager of one of this nation's most
endangered airports has disclosed the restrictions that have been
placed on operations (again) at College park--the oldest
continuously operated airport in America (until it's finally driven
out of business...).
Lee Schiek (a helluva guy, folks, no kidding) has told ANN that
CGS was notified at 1450 hrs Monday that, effective as of 1500 hrs
on the same data (in other words, all of ten minutes notice...),
"Condition Orange" is in-place at College Park, MD (CGS).
This means:
1. Airport hours of operation will be reduced to 8am-6pm daily.
Inbound flights departing FME before 1800 hrs will be allowed to
land.
2. TSA will have an on-site presence at CGS between those hours
for the purpose of checking pilot credentials and inspecting
aircraft prior to departure.
3. Inbound flights to CGS will be required to first land at
Tipton-Ft. Meade Airport (FME) to be screened prior to landing at
CGS.
4. These procedures will remain in effect UFN...
