AMA Drone Report 02.13.20: Huge NPRM Response, Horizon Hobby, FAA UAS Symposium

Also: Drone Delivers Wine, UAV v Motorcycle Cops, Madrid Airport Hysteria, Daytona 500 TFR

If there was any doubt that the model aviation community has a problem with the current direction and policies of the FAA, the 13,000 comments posted to the FAA’s NPRM in just the last few weeks should kill those thoughts, pronto.

Despite a short window for commentary and the FAA’s inexplicable denial of a deadline extension, thanks to the EAA, the comments are coming in at a near record pace... and while the current numbers aren’t a record for an NPRM, they could be, before this is all over. A Horizon hobby video, narrated by Horizon Hobby Marketing Director, Steve Petrotto, has many in the drone community, especially FPV flyers, up in arms. The video was published in order to address Horizon’s concerns about the remote ID proposal... but over the course of the few minutes of the video, many FPV flyers came to believe that Horizon was setting some of the community against others... with FPV Flyers, in particular getting the short end of the stick. If you have a problem with the direction of drone regs, this might be a good place to understand what they’re saying and let the Feds know what your concerns are... The annual FAA UAS Symposium brings together industry professionals and regulators to promote learning and growth within the UAS community. It’s an exclusive opportunity to talk face-to-face with stakeholders from all sectors, where you can help define the rules and concepts that govern the future of drone operations. This year, the FAA UAS Symposium will focus on four primary educational tracks: Public Safety, Technology + Innovation, International, and Policy. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of the AMA Drone Report!!!
