More Than 10,000 Sign EAA Sport Pilot Petition

Support poured in from throughout the nation over the past few days for EAA's sport pilot/light-sport aircraft petition to the federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB), resulting in signatures from more than 10,000 EAA members, other pilots, and aviation enthusiasts. The petition drive ended early Sunday morning, April 25.

The petition was presented to OMB with a cover letter from seven Members of Congress, including two U.S. senators and five US representatives. These elected officials were invited to join the EAA-initiated petition urging OMB to approve the rule "in the most expeditious manner possible" when it receives the proposal back from the Federal Aviation Administration and the U.S. Department of Transportation. For their extraordinary effort in coordinating the congressional core of support, EAA thanks Rep. Sam Graves (R-MO) and his staff.

In excess of 6,500 signatures were collected through EAA's online petition, which were added to the more than 3,600 endorsements signed during the recent Sun 'n Fun EAA Fly-In at Lakeland (FL).

FAA officials continue their extensive efforts to complete their responses to OMB inquiries regarding the rule. FAA had pulled back the rule from OMB to add additional background and clarification in late March.
