First Flight At Dyess Big Country Airfest This Past Weekend Creates Anticipation For Next Show
The Red Steel Jet Team’s first air show performance at Dyess Big Country Airfest at Dyess AFB in Abeline TX, this past weekend was judged to be a huge success for the team. The Red Steel Jet Team’s 3 L-39’s were flown by pilots Douglas Gilliss, Orestes Lorenzo and Zach ‘Z’ McNeill.
The one-day Dyess Big Country Airfest welcomed thousands to see featured air acts by Tim Weber and the Geico sponsored Extra, Jim Gregg, Andrew Wright, Army Golden Knights, Wings Of Blue, B-1, B-2, A-10 and a 20 minute performance to help close out the show by The Red Steel Jet Team. The Red Steel Jet Team is now preparing for the next show which will take place May 19-20th at Whiteman AFB.
The 2012 Wings Over Whiteman show and open house is open to the public and is free. Other headliners at the Whiteman AFB show will be the Golden Knights parachute team and the B-2 Stealth Bomber. "Our team is really excited about our first performance at Dyess Big Country Airfest,' said McNeil. "It took a lot of teamwork to pull it off and it will only get better from here. We had a tremendous amount of support from the personnel and staff at Dyess Air Force Base, especially the tire shop, and without them the performance would have been untenable. It is a great first step and first show in a long season."
