Classic Aero-TV: Designing A Scenario - The 'Magic' Behind Redbird's Sims

Redbird Developer's Virtual 'Box Of Legos'...

At the Redbird Migration 2013, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell had a chance to sit down with Redbird Flight Simulations Content Manager, Mike Singer, and the Director of Scenario Development for Redbird Flight Simulation, Brandon Seltz. While it’s common knowledge in the world of flight simulation that Redbird is revolutionizing the availability of simulators to individual flight schools, there’s more to it than just the “box” that works like an airplane.

Redbird takes it a step further and develops complete scenario-based training programs that that allow a simulator trainee to receive training autonomously. Mike Singer describes the concept of scenario-based training as applied to a computer driven simulator. As developed in the Redbird training programs the simulator not only provides visual and motion, it actually provides a situation that requires the pilot to figure out a resolution.

Brandon Seltz tells Jim that making a simulator “think” like a pilot is complex and must be broken down into numerous “mini-steps.” He relates it to the simplicity of a single Lego brick being used in different combinations to form an object or sculpture.

Redbird Flight Simulations has taken simulator training to a new level. This video provides background on what can now be achieved, and it’s a must see for anyone involved in flight training.
