Boeing's Carson Takes Delivery Of His Sport Cub S2

Unique Paint Scheme Pays Tribute To WSU

Boeing President and CEO Scott Carson has taken some flak lately, over mounting delays to the 787 Dreamliner program... but this week, he saw one special airplane deliver right on time.

In a special ceremony at CubCrafters' manufacturing facility in Yakima, WA, Carson took delivery of his brand new Sport Cub S2 -- in a unique paint scheme he requested, in tribute to his alma mater Washington State University.

In accepting the keys to his the new Sport Cub S2, Carson addressed all CubCrafters employees: “My decision to purchase this airplane over others I considered is about all of you that are here today. Your commitment to quality, safety, engineering, and more is what makes the difference. You should be so proud of what you have accomplished here at CubCrafters.”

As ANN reported, Carson purchased the plane for personal use. The traditional airframe is outfitted with modern offerings such as a glass panel, and seatbelt airbags.

"CubCrafters employees, the Yakima community, and Washington State University are indeed proud today," said CubCrafters President Todd Simmons. "Given his stature in the aerospace industry, Scott choosing CubCrafters is a validation of our producing and delivering a truly new Cub. From CubCrafters to Boeing, we are proud to be known as Washington’s other airplane maker!"

After his first flight, Carson closed out the day with one more note back to Yakima. "My heart felt thanks to all the good people at CubCrafters for making today possible. I am really, really pleased with the plane and with the idea that somehow, for a short hour today, I felt like a kid again!! You guys really are putting the fun back in the experience."
