Airbus Looks To Boost A350 Deliveries

Sets Goal Of 80 Airliners Out The Door In 2017

Airbus has set a tentative goal of delivering 80 A350XWB airliners in 2017, according to sources familiar with the planemaker's plans.

While Airbus has not officially set an 80-airplane goal for the type, Airbus CEO Fabrice Beriger said at a ceremony marking the first flight of the A350-1000 Thursday that he is "more optimistic than before" about reaching the company's target of at least 50 A350 deliveries this year, according to a report from Reuters. So far, it has sent 35 A350s to new owners this year.

Airbus had previously announced that it hopes to raise production of the A350 to 10 airplanes per month in 2018, but delivering 80 next year would be a new phase of that fairly aggressive timeframe, according to the report.

Airbus Programs chief Didier Evrard told Reuters that the supply chain has improved, but still requires monitoring. Delays in engine production have held back deliveries of the A320neo, Evrard said.
