Moving On Up -- Donald Trump Buys B757

His Previous Corporate Jet Was A 727

Among the rumblings of a possible Presidential bid, real estate entrepreneur Donald Trump as revealed that he's bought a Boeing 757. The tycoon-turned-TV reality show host confirmed the purchase, which he says gives him twice the room as his previous corporate jet ... a B727.

The airplane is currently being re-fitted to Trumps' taste, and he told the Palm Beach Post that he expects to have his new jet in about a month. Trump has been dropping hints over the past few weeks that he is considering a bid for President, and there is speculation  that the larger plane would be needed for campaigning around the country. Trump says he'll be making a final decision on his run in June.

Trump told the paper that his new plane is far quieter than the older 727, which he hopes his part-time neighbors in Palm Beach, FL appreciate. He has personally complained about noise from aircraft from Palm Beach International Airport flying over his Mar-A-Lago club in Palm Beach, and had filed a lawsuit to block an expansion of KBPI. The FAA recently said based on traffic, a new runway would not be needed for some 40 years.

While Trump would not say how much he paid for the 757, the paper reports that he bought it from Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, and may have paid about $100 million. The 727, meanwhile, has been for sale for two years, with an asking price of about $8 million. The broker handling that deal said recently that a replacement airplane had been purchased, and that now "all reasonable offers" would be considered for the 43-year-old jet.
