MCAS Cherry Point Gears Up For Huge Air Show

Promises To Be Grand, Despite Iraq Deployment

Many of the Marines stationed at Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station (NC) may be deployed to Southwest Asia and the Persian Gulf, but that won't stop "From The Beginning To The Beyond," billed as the biggest air show ever staged in eastern North Carolina.

Overview

Celebrating 100 years of aviation, the 2003 MCAS Cherry Point Air Show will be the largest single event ever hosted in eastern NC. The air show highlights: community involvement, military recruiting, plus, showcases MCAS Cherry Point and the latest in Marine Corps aviation and technology.

Show Dates

May 2-4, 2003

Night Show Friday evening, May 2, Gates open at 5pm

Regular Day shows both Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4, gates open at 8am

Location

Havelock (NC) is the gateway to MCAS Cherry Point. Located halfway between Morehead City and New Bern, Cherry Point is approximately two hours east of Raleigh via Hwy 70 and north of Wilmington on Hwy 17. Watch for signs.

Day Shows

Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4, gates open at 8am

Features include: US Navy Blue Angels flight demonstration team fly both days at 3pm, numerous civilian and military demonstrations and fly bys with a historical perspective, variety of historical and modern static aircraft and displays

Night Show/Concert

Friday evening, May 2, gates open at 5pm

Features include: various night oriented aerobatic demonstrations, “wall of flame” explosive demonstration, fireworks display, carnival rides

Free concert begins immediately after the night show

Security & Safety

Every effort will be made to minimize delays in entering and leaving the Air Show, but please be prepared for searches. The following items are prohibited: pets, glass, coolers, alcohol, or wheeled vehicles. Strollers & wheelchairs are permitted, but are subject to search.

Hints

MCAS Cherry Point officials suggest visitors bring comfort items such as lawn chairs, blankets, sun screen, earplugs, hats, jackets, camera, film, and cell phone. Cash (ATM’s will be available, but lines may be long).
