Tons of Bucks to Help NIMBYs Fight O'Hare

$110,000,000 in Fliers' Fees Go To 'Study'

The FAA cleared the way Monday for an expenditure of $110 million, to expand O'Hare International Airport. The money won't put a single pebble into place for a runway, or grade an apron; nor will it paint one sign, put up one fence, buy a screening machine, or install a single piece of plumbing. It won't enhance fire and rescue, or lessen traffic congestion. It won't do anything at all, except, as the FAA put it, "help better define the project for the environmental study."

In other words, it will make the jobs of those opposed to the airport's expansion, easier. Hurrah for 'first steps,' eh?

O'Hare collects $4.50 per passenger, per flight, to fund the expansion project. That fee will be used to fund this study, as well.
