Airmate Hits 250,000-User Mark

Situational Awareness and Flight Planning Application Picking Up Speed in App Market

Airmate celebrated a milestone of reaching a quarter-million registered users of its application at AERO 2024, heading to Friedrichshafen with good news in tow.

Airmate is an EFB app, like so many others, but it manages to maintain a blessedly grassroots feel. It offers most of the same EFB accouterments one expects from the breed, like charting, mapping, flight planning, and situational awareness while in-air.

Perhaps where it really shines is that it breaks from the pack of requiring hundreds of dollars a year just to maintain basic functionality - Airmate prides itself on being the "first fully free EFB," providing their services as a safety enhancer and trusting in the goodwill of its userbase to keep them afloat. Even the features that other EFBs gate behind extra payments are free with Airmate, like georeferenced approach plates, synthetic vision, terrain profiles, weather, and real time traffic. Even flight recording and playback makes an appearance here, too, making it a nifty little do-all. That level of utility has found it fans throughout the general aviation, sport, and even flight sim industries, picking up subscribers left and right.

There are some paid options, of course, like a "pro" subscription geared towards flight operations departments, giving them more control over the data, options, and references their pilots have access to on company machines. It's a refreshing change of pace for anyone who's seen a cash-strapped pilot eschew an EFB in favor of buying just a couple more hours of flight time, and even then Airmate does the needful in offering their app for Android systems, too.

While at AERO 2024 in Friedrichshafen, Airmate CEO Myriam Delgal took a brief moment to celebrate.

"AIRMATE is now the most used aviation app by pilots worldwide with more than 250,000 users. It has brought free flight planning tools and increased safety and situational awareness for pilots in more than 200 countries. We are proud to offer to the pilot community this fully free tool and are sure our pilot community will enjoy our latest release."
