Cirrus SR-22 Down In West Virginia

Pilot Failed To Contact ATC At Destination Airport

A Cirrus SR-22 went down in West Virginia Thursday night. There was only one person on board the aircraft.

According to multiple news reports, including AP and CNN, the airplane was enroute to Eagle Creek Airport just outside Indianapolis from York, Nebraska. Air Traffic Controllers lost contact with the aircraft near Indianapolis, and the aircraft continued on its existing heading at FL250. NORAD scrambled two F-16's to follow the aircraft, which did not respond to multiple attempts at contact.

The airplane which was registered to Sequoia Airways in Avon, Indiana, eventually went down when its fuel was exhausted a little after 2200 in West Virginia, several hundred miles past its intended destination.

No cause for the incident has been determined. It will be investigated by FAA and NTSB.
