FBI Investigating Threats Against SpaceX Starship

Several Threats Reported Against Starbase In Boca Chica Beach

The FBI is looking into threats be several individuals against SpaceX’s Starship and its Starbase Boca Chica Beach in Brownsville, Texas. The bureau said possible bomb threats set to occur on Christmas Eve were mentioned by a witness near the launch site.

The FBI said it is working with local law enforcement and other partners to address the threats. In a statement the agency said, “While we are working to carefully vet and investigate the information we have received, we want to reiterate that the safety and security of the American people is the FBI’s highest concern.”

This is at least the second reported bomb threat against Starbase in recent weeks. It was made on the Brownsville Police Department’s nonemergency phone line, and the caller allegedly stated, “the bomb was on a rocket, and then advised it was on a spaceship.” Although it’s not exactly clear what the intention is, the department referred it to the FBI.

The FBI is urging the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local police or the FBI.

Although its website does not specify a launch date, SpaceX reportedly said its 7th flight test of Starship will be next week (as delayed from January 10). It represents a significant upgrade of the upper stage Starship and will be the vehicle’s first attempted payload deployment test.
