Hungarocopter Claims To Be First Helicopter Designed & Manufactured In Hungary

Goal Is To Develop Widely Available Light Helicopter

The Hungarocopter HC-01 was the company’s first Hungarian-designed and manufactured ultralight helicopter. Completed in 2010, it received approval from the Hungarian Aviation Authority and several units were sold in Hungarian and international markets.

Hungarocopter went on to develop the more powerful HC-02 single-place that included an upgrade to the company’s internally-developed electrically-powered rescue system (ERS). The ERS is a battery-powered motor that provides a temporary 25 Kw for about 10 seconds of rotor power to assist an autorotation landing in the event of an engine failure. The HC-02/1 also received a Hungarian flight permit.

In 2021 after design, planning, and production preparations, the Hungarocopter HC-02.2 was introduced. This model is equipped with the Rotax 915 IS aircraft engine and provides the helicopter with better efficiency compared with other ultra-light helos. The operating costs for this model are about 25% lower than others in its category.

The HC-02.2 has flight permits for test flights in Hungary and Slovakia.

The HC-02.2 is being marketed for the following applications:

  • Pilot Training, in both military and civilian applications
  • Disaster Response: search and rescue, emergency medical transport, damage assessment after severe weather events to assess conditions of dams, bridges, roads, and power transmission lines
  • Tourism: Aerial tours, photography excursions, filming, and mapping

Hungarocopter is committed to producing high quality, multi-role helicopters that are low in cost yet high in safety enhancements. The company’s advanced machine and tool shop, combined with its engineering and technical expertise will serve to advance those goals. Ultimately the company seeks German and Hungarian national type approval certificates to enable it to reach a larger European market.
