Women In Aerospace Selects 2006 Award Winners

Will Be Honored October 11 In Washington DC

Women in Aerospace (WIA) proudly announced to ANN Friday the winners of its 21st Annual Women in Aerospace Awards. In a reception to be held at the U.S. Botanic Gardens on Wednesday, October 11, 2006, WIA will honor five outstanding women in the aerospace industry for their contributions to advancing women in the aerospace industry.

Without further adieu, the 2006 winners are:

  • Lifetime Achievement Award: Carol A. Staubach, Principal, Booz Allen Hamilton, Herndon, VA, for more than 30 years as a stellar contributor to the advancement of aerospace science that supports the Nation's security.
  • Leadership Award: Patricia J. Stratton, Deputy Associate Program Manager, United Space Alliance Ground Operations, Cape Canaveral, FL, for leadership of Space Shuttle element flight processes from landing to launch, as well as ground support equipment and facilities maintenance, and for her active involvement in leading business and civic community outreach.
  • Achievement Award: Amy Walsh, Senior Aerospace Systems Engineer, Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corporation, Boulder, CO, for considerable contributions and commitment to the design, development, test and mission operations of the Deep Impact spacecraft.
  • Aerospace Educator Award: Joan Johnson-Freese, Professor and Chair, Department of National Security Decision-Making/Naval War College, Newport, RI, for decades of teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds and for blazing a trail to become one of the most respected educators and commentators in the field of space policy.
  • Aerospace Awareness Award: Gail Breslauer, Founder and Educator, Vermont Space Education Program, Moretown, VT, for raising awareness of aerospace by founding the Vermont Space Educator Program, which focuses on space exploration, capturing the imagination of students of all ages, and providing them with dreams and inspiration.

Women in Aerospace (WIA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding women's opportunities for leadership and to increasing their visibility within the aerospace community. Any person who supports WIA's mission and goals is eligible for membership.
