AOPA Air Safety Foundation Presents Top Five Mistakes Pilots Make

"Doctor, It Hurts When I Do This..."

Like the punchline to the old joke, the AOPA Air Safety Foundation’s advice to pilots about the five most common deadly mistakes pilots make is, "Then just stop doing it!"

"Year after year, we continue to see pilots making the same mistakes that lead to fatalities," said Bruce Landsberg, executive director of the AOPA Air Safety Foundation. "Our seminar offers valuable information that may just save the lives of some of our attendees."

The Foundation has identified five mistakes most likely to lead to pilot-related fatal accidents, and will be presenting them to pilots nationwide in their latest seminar, Top Five Mistakes Pilots Make. The seminar begins its nationwide tour on January 7 at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno, NV at 7:00 pm.

The two-hour seminar examines the top things within pilots’ control, such as continuing a fair-weather flight into bad weather or fuel mismanagement, that are most likely to kill them. If those top five mistakes were eliminated, there would be 80% fewer pilot-related fatal accidents.

Top Five Mistakes Pilots Make harnesses the power of more than a half-century of Air Safety Foundation accident research and analysis, all in a neat package that will leave attendees with a better grasp of the most serious dangers we face as pilots.

Seminar attendees will receive a copy of the Air Safety Foundation's Joseph T. Nall Report, which describes the latest accident trends and factors for general aviation. This program also qualifies for AOPA’s Accident Forgiveness Program.

The AOPA Air Safety Foundation is the nation’s only private, nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to providing continuing pilot education and safety programs for general aviation. It is funded by donations from individual pilots and organizations, which support the cause of improved general aviation safety.
