Gogo Announces 5G Speeds

In-Flight Average of ~25 Mbps, 80 Mbps Peak

Gogo has released its speed expectations for the newest Gogo 5G network, saying the average of 25 mbps is expected, with peak speeds near 80 mbps. With rollout of their 5G coverage continuing this year, users will see improved performance on the Avance network, enjoying 4G performance nationwide, with increasing next-gen coverage.

Speeds were evaluated and averaged across eight of Gogo’s high-priority, frequently traveled routes. New York, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Dallas all showed strong network performance and nearly terrestrial broadband speeds. Passengers interviewed on their experience describe contentment with the service, as they reported widespread use of video-intensive applications like video calling, team meetings, and streaming content.

“A recent survey by The Boston Consulting Group reported that Gogo AVANCE L5 customers experienced 2-7+ Mbps speeds, and with 5G onboard, those speeds will increase dramatically,” said Sergio Aguirre, president of Gogo. “We are confident that with our new higher speeds and inherent low latency, 5G will deliver the best connectivity experience in business aviation.

“Our 5G network deployment has begun, and we’re on schedule for launch in the second half of 2022,” Aguirre added. “We’re deep into system qualification and certification, we’re developing a comprehensive Supplemental Type Certification (STC) portfolio, and last week we announced our launch customer, Jet Edge.”

The provision of Gogo 5G is an easy, modular upgrade for aircraft already equipped with Avance L5, resulting in a turnkey, immediate increase in customer satisfaction with minimal downtime.
