Joby Ramps Up To Double Aircraft Production

Pushing To Roll Out Air Taxi Service In 2026

Joby Aviation said it is scaling up its production of its aircraft by initiating production at its remodeled component plant in Dayton, Ohio, and will double the capacity at its main manufacturing facility in Marina, California, as it races competitors to roll out air taxi service in 2026.

Joby Aviation, Archer Aviation, and Eve Air Mobility are competing to be the first in the world to launch eVTOL air taxi service to ease traffic congestion in crowded urban areas. All are awaiting regulatory approval, and Joby is in the process of securing FAA approval for its vehicles.

Eric Allison, Joby’s product chief said, “Reimagining urban mobility takes speed, scale, and precision manufacturing. Our expanded manufacturing footprint in both California and Ohio is preparing us to do just that.”

Joby publicly-traded stock jumped when it delivered its first eVTOL to the United Arab Emirates and announced plans to introduce service next year. The company had already entered a six-year deal in February with Dubai to roll out air taxi service in that country.

Joby said its expanded facilities will create hundreds of new full-time jobs and reinforce its commitment to promoting American innovation and manufacturing. The 435,500 square foot facility in California is slated to produce up to 24 aircraft annually.

Engineers from its partner Toyota will help ramp up production at the Ohio facility to 500 aircraft annually. Joby and Toyota entered a $500 million deal last year.
