Airborne 06.07.21: Ogden v GA, P-3s Seize Drugs, Bell H-1 Milestone

Also: FAA Revokes Certificate, SpaceX Cargo Craft, Rotorcraft Community Collaborates, AEA21 LIVE Coverage

There is another fight brewing over a GA airport -- this time, in Utah. The Ogden Regional Airport Association was brought back to life to start a series of legal and class action efforts against Ogden Airport and City officials that seem intent on changing rules and jacking up rates with great frequency and severity.

A lawsuit has just been filed. ORAA is protesting changes in hangar leases and prices, and the rules under which they work with the pilot/owners. The organization believes that it is the intention of the airport to take over some 200 hangars and FBO operations from their owners via 'exorbitant' price increases in leases, changing signed leases outside of the terms agreed to, and a move to allow the airport 'to take over (anyone's) hangar for any reason at any time.' It's been a busy 2021, so far, for CBP's AMO. Air and Marine Operations (AMO) National Air Security Operations Center, P-3 Long Range Tracker and Airborne Early Warning crews partnered with federal authorities to disrupt the smuggling of 24 tons of narcotics between January 1 and March 31 in narcotics transit zones, denying transnational narcotics traffickers nearly $900 million USD in illicit proceeds. During the second quarter of fiscal year 2021, AMO P-3 crews worked with federal and international partners to seize 47,345 pounds of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana. Bell's doing a bit more crowing... and for good reason. The H-1 mixed fleet of AH-1Z Viper and UH-1Y Venom attack and utility helicopters have accumulated more than 400,000 joint-flight hours. Designed by Bell, as the dedicated military helicopters for the United States Marine Corps, the Viper and Venom have been deployed around the world across a full spectrum of military operations since 2010. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
