Passengers Walk Through Unattended Metal Detector At Kennedy Airport

Eleven Individuals Made It Through Security Without Being Screened

Eleven passengers were able to walk through an unattended metal detector at Kennedy International Airport in New York and gain access to the gate area without being screened.

The New York Daily News reports that TSA agents left the area unsupervised, and it took two hours before TSA notified airport police about the security breach.

Three of the passengers set off the metal detector, according to the report. There was no one present at the security checkpoint to operate either the magnetometer and the X-ray machine or conduct secondary screening, according to law enforcement sources.

The incident occurred early Monday morning at JetBlue's Terminal 5.

Port Authority police rushed to the terminal after being notified of the breach, but they were unable to locate the passengers. The three who set off the metal detector reportedly flew to California, according to a Port Authority official.

TSA said in a statement it was reviewing the incident.
