Universal Avionics Completes Aperture System

Series Production Begins for Visual Data Integration System

Universal Avionics has announced the completed development of its Aperture visual data management solution, now moving on to production.

The Aperture system has been an object of interest for a major avionics OEM, and Universal says it’s just the first of many to express interest in its capabilities. Soon, the initial product line will be released to the public, with factory installations on new aircraft in development as part of a factory flight deck offering.

The Aperture can process 8 video inputs while supporting 4 video outputs with near-zero latency. That performance allows the highest level of integrity for use in commercial aviation, at Design Assurance Level A, providing peace of mind and allowing integration from a number of sensors and imagers into the flight deck’s equipment. The Aperture, in its current form, tends to be seen as a system to present Enhanced Vision Systems, but ongoing developments will expand its capabilities to include added video channels,, image manipulation, and synthetic imagery. Universal Avionics has even begun working with Artificial Intelligence to further complement the system and one day allow for augmented reality in real time. Once available, the Aperture will allow pilots to use real-time content analysis on the data gleaned from on-board systems, showing visual positioning, obstacle detection, accurate taxi guidance, and traffic awareness to dramatically improve their situational awareness in high workload environments.

“Aperture unlocks the door for new capabilities to become a reality in our everyday lives. Urban transport, space travel, single-pilot, and autonomous operations once impossible are becoming a reality with the emergence of AI-powered augmented vision driving pilot safety and aircraft optimization,” said Dror Yahav, CEO of Universal Avionics. “We help customers Connect what’s Next because Next is Now.”
