George Charles Allen Named Royal Aeronautical Society Fellow

In His Majesty’s CFI Service

The Royal Aeronautical Society, a London, UK-based institution dedicated to advancing the aviation, aerospace, and space sectors, announced on 05 April 2023 that Mr. George Charles Allen has been elected to the station of Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS).

Fellow is the highest grade attainable within the society and is awarded solely to individuals who’ve made outstanding contributions, attained positions of high responsibility, and demonstrated consistently high qualities of work and character in the profession of aeronautics.

The Royal Aeronautical Society recognizes Mr. Allen’s exceptional achievements, leadership, and commitment to the worldwide advancement of the art and science of aeronautics. By dint of his newly-earned fellowship, Mr. Allen takes his place among a prestigious group of individuals, the entirety of whom have made significant contributions to the fields of aviation and aeronautics.

Mr. Allen stated: “I am deeply honored to be elected as a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society. The Society has been instrumental in promoting excellence in aerospace since its inception, and I am proud to be recognized by such a venerable institution. I look forward to continuing to inform, educate, and inspire the next generation of aviation and space enthusiasts and professionals whilst striving to discover novel and effective ways to make deeply meaningful advancements for the future of humanity in these creative, scientific, and professional endeavors.”

Established in 1866, the Royal Aeronautical Society is the world’s oldest institution of its kind. The society leads developments in aeronautics and space by providing a central forum in which stakeholders share knowledge germane to the advancement of the aeronautical arts and sciences while promoting the highest professional standards.

The Society congratulates Mr. Allen on his well-deserved fellowship and looks forward to his continued contributions to the advancement of aeronautics.

Mr. Allen is an experienced aviator, award-winning aerospace educator, and second-generation professional flight instructor. By virtue of his commitments to excellence and innovation, Mr. Allen has led family-owned AeroVenture to twice earning the AOPA National Best Flight School award. Some 1,447 flight schools vie for the distinction—the attainment of which speaks compellingly to the winning institution’s comprehensive curricula and the knowledge and experience of its faculty.

Alumni of AeroVenture’s aviation and aerospace programs have gone on to attend leading institutions of higher education and landed positions with major airlines, corporate flight departments, and various military services. One particularly accomplished AeroVenture graduate currently serves NASA’s Mission Control at Houston as a Pilot (GN&C Engineer) of the International Space Station.

In addition to his flight instructing endeavors, Mr. Allen serves on the National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI) board of directors. Representing the profession of flight instructing and serving members in the U.S. and 35 nations, NAFI is the largest and —after the fashion of the Royal Aeronautical Society—the oldest organization of its kind.

Previously, Mr. Allen served on the AOPA Flight Training Advisory Board, where he helped shape the future of the flight instructing profession by lending his personal insights and perspectives vis-à-vis the training and hiring of flight instructors and the marketing the practice and product of flight instruction.

In recognition of his leadership and excellence in aerospace education, Mr. Allen, in 2018, was presented the National Science Teaching Association’s (NSTA) Dr. Wendell G. Mohling Outstanding Aerospace Educator Award.

NSTA President Dr. David Crowther remarked: "Through his hard work and dedication, Mr. Allen makes a difference. He makes science come alive for his students and helps them realize the importance of science in their daily lives.”

Mr. Allen's dedication to aviation safety is further evinced by his Master Pilot designation—as awarded by the FAA Safety Team WINGS program. The Master Pilot credential attests to Mr. Allen’s commitment to aviation safety and the resolve with which he supports the highest principles of the FAA Safety Team.

Mr. Allen holds a master of science in aeronautics and space—with distinction—from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
