AeroSports Update: One Week Wonder’ Makes The Rounds In Florida

The Zenith CH 750 Cruzer Built At EAA AirVenture 2014 In One Week Struts Its Stuff As It Visits EAA Chapters In Florida

The ANN crew covered the One Week Wonder project at AirVenture last year and we were impressed at how popular the project was. Thousands of people participated and others saw for the first time what it is like to build an airplane. EAA now tells the story of the One Week Wonder visiting EAA chapters in Florida.

After a couple months in storage at Sebring, FL, EAA’s One Week Wonder Zenith CH 750 Cruzer paid visits to five EAA chapters on a mini tour throughout the state. EAA’s Charlie Becker, homebuilding community manager, flew the airplane to EAA chapters in Punta Gorda, Williston, Titusville, Brooksville, and Daytona Beach to show off the airplane and to be present at their monthly chapter meetings.

“Everyone really enjoyed seeing the airplane and really appreciated our visit,” Becker said. Most were seeing the airplane in person for the first time, but there were about a dozen or so members throughout the week who were in the project logbook, having pulled rivets or otherwise helped with the project during AirVenture 2014.

“For the people who helped on the build, it was a reunion,” said Becker, who during his visits gave chapter members updates on areas of focus for EAA headquarters. The stops also provided numerous opportunities to promote homebuilding, wave the EAA flag, and connect with chapter members.

Accompanying Becker for the first several stops was Sebastien Heintz, president of Zenith aircraft, who also blogged about the visits on the Zenith website.

Later this spring the One Week Wonder will appear at the Sun ’n Fun International Fly-In and Expo in Lakeland, Florida, April 21-26; and May 2 at the Aircraft Spruce and Specialty (East) customer appreciation day in Peachtree City, Georgia.

We at ANN would like to ask Charlie Becker one question; how did you convince the head-shed at EAA headquarters that you should be the one to leave Wisconsin in the winter, and fly the airplane around Florida for a week? We suspect the answer is; it’s a tough job but somebody had to do it.
