Four Lost In Minnesota SR22 Landing Accident

Strong Winds Reported At Time

A Cirrus SR22 rolled during a landing attempt Sunday at Faribault Municipal Airport (FBL) in Minnesota, impacting the ground near the runway in an inverted attitude. All four people onboard were lost in the crash, according to media reports.

The Associated Press reports the aircraft was making its second approach to land at the airport when it went down at about 1500 local time. The plane caught fire on impact.

FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory said the aircraft departed Aberdeen, SD bound for Faribault earlier that day.

Wind gusts exceeding 20 mph were reported at the airport at the time of the accident, added Faribault Police Chief Dan Collins, though it is not known if the wind was a factor in the accident.
