Classic Aero-TV: Maintaining Your Flying Skills-EAA16's Pilot Proficiency Center

From 2016 (YouTube Version): EAA’s Pilot Proficiency Center Is Designed to Encourage Proficiency and Provide Actual Training…

While at EAA AirVenture 2016, ANN News Editor, Tom Patton, stopped by the Pilot Proficiency Center in its new location at what was known as the, EAA Four Corners. This new central location brings to light EAA’s position that pilot proficiency is key to aviation safety.

Tom met up with Chuck Gensler, who is the Operations Manager for EAA’s Pilot Proficiency Center. Gensler pointed out that the purpose of the Pilot Proficiency Center was not only to promote the concept that proficiency is key to safety, but also to put it into practice at EAA AirVenture.

Throughout the week, the center offered forums and training programs, as well as 14 simulators, which allowed the volunteer instructors to really perform proficiency training. Hundreds of pilots actually left the Pilot Proficiency Center feeling better about their skills than when they walked in the door.

Another fascinating feature of the training received at the Pilot Proficiency Center was that air traffic control in the simulators was handled like the real deal. Actual ATC controllers were located in a separate area of the center while others were linked from across the country.

It’s a great video for seeing how modern training can be performed, and the role that maintaining pilot proficiency can play in overall aviation safety. Be sure you visit the Pilot Proficiency Center if you attend AirVenture 2017!
