Republic Airways Awards Annual Aviator Scholarship

University Of Dubuque Flight Instructor Dallas Syverson Is The Fourth Recipient Of The $5,000 'Nothing But Blue Skies' Aviator Scholarship

Republic has awarded its “Nothing but Blue Skies” Aviator Scholarship to Dallas Syverson, a certified flight instructor and recent graduate of the University of Dubuque. This is the fourth consecutive year Republic has sponsored the $5,000 scholarship, which is intended to encourage female pilots to continue flight training and help expand workforce diversity.

“This scholarship will help ease the financial burden that flight training imposes,” said Syverson, who took her first flight at age 16. “It brings me one step closer to my goal of my ATP certification and I can continue doing what I love. I want to thank Republic Airways for their generosity and willingness to support female aviators.”

A WAI member since 2015, Syverson has led efforts to organize “Girls in Aviation Day” events at the University of Dubuque, and she is an active member of Alpha Eta Rho, a professional aviation fraternity focused on service and leadership. Syverson also completed an unpaid internship at the Dubuque Regional Airport.

To qualify for the Republic scholarship, Syverson had to maintain a 3.0 GPA, be actively building flight hours, show involvement in aviation-related leadership activities, demonstrate financial need, show a strong interest in working for Republic, as well as fulfill a number of WAI scholarship requirements.

“Receiving this scholarship is such an honor,” said Syverson, originally from Walker, Iowa. “Women all over the world want nothing more than to help and see each other succeed. I hope to help the next generation shoot for the stars as well.”

Syverson accepted the award at the 29th Annual Women in Aviation International Conference on March 22-24 in Reno, NV. The conference, which attracted more than 4,500 attendees from around the world, focused on WAI’s mission of supporting and connecting women throughout the aviation industry.

This month, WAI is scheduled to release a complete list of its 2019 scholarship opportunities, including Republic’s “Nothing but Blue Skies” Aviator Scholarship. The deadline to apply is Nov. 12, 2018. For more information, visit the Women in Aviation website at www.wai.org.
