AeroSports Update: Wingwalkers Rule!

Third Strike Wingwalking Opens A Casting Call For Airshow Pilots

It may commonly be assumed that wingwalking airshow acts are put together when a skilled airshow pilot adds a wingwalker to provide variety in the airshow performance. However, this is not always the case. Carol Pilon’s ‘Third Strike Wingwalking Company’ does it the other way around. They start with the airplane and wingwalker, and add the pilot.

Here on some excerpts from the ad that Pilon recently put up on the Internet to keep their airshow business humming by bringing on some new airplane drivers:

“Third Strike Wingwalking is looking to complete our roster with two or three more pilots. Normally, pilot selection is done in a much more private way. The reason that I have opted to put out a casting call is because I have lost track with what is going on in the industry and I really have no idea who would be interested in trying out for the team. There are so many warbirds pilots out there that I know nothing about, soloist that I have never met and even old acquaintances who might be interested without me having a clue that they are.”

The ad continues, “If you are an air show pilot who is interested in barnstorming and wingwalk accreditation, I would like to hear from you. I am looking for surface level waiver holders but will make consideration of 250 waiver holders if they offer something that blows me away. Tail wheel experience is a must and a good dynamic fit with the team is essential.”

According to the Third Strike Wingwalking website, they offers a variety of different acts. The staples to any Third Strike act are a bright red biplane, a daring wingwalker, the best pilot skills available, and mountains of billowing smoke. They say, “You will find a smile under every tumble.”
