AOPA Quietly Corks Wine Club

Fuller: Appeal Was Not Broad Enough To Continue

An e-mail sent to members of the infamous AOPA Wine Club and forwarded to ANN indicates that AOPA has decided to put a cork in the Wine Club.

While there is no mention of the closing on either the AOPA main site or the Wine Club site, AOPA spokesperson Chris Dancy told ANN that the content of the e-mail was accurate. In the e-mail, AOPA president and CEO Craig Fuller said to the wine club members that "after much consideration we have decided that the overall appeal to the AOPA membership as a whole is not broad enough to continue the AOPA Wine Club as it exists today. If you are a current subscriber you can expect to receive one final wine club shipment in the coming weeks."

Fuller said the club site will also continue to provide links to participating vintners along with other contact information.

ANN E-I-C Note: The sad part of this is the fact that AOPA decided to do away with the inadvisable operation for financial reasons and not because it had the potential to cast the association and the rest of aviation in a bad light. Care to check your priorities, AOPA??? -- Jim Campbell, ANN E-I-C (who won't drink ANYTHING questionable anywhere near an airplane, airport or other aviation facility).
