Wisk Expands Australian Footprint

Skyports Partnership Grows to Include Vertiport Prospecting

Wisk Aero announced a venture with Skyports Infrastructure to begin an Entry-Into-Service network for their AAM aircraft in the South East Queensland region of Australia.

The eVTOL developer expanded its global footprint by looking abroad, like so many of their competitors, and found that their previous partnership with Skyports would be a fine basis to work from. In 2022, Wisk began working with the Council of Mayors of the region under a program to "introduce safe, sustainable, and scalable, autonomous air taxi service to South East Queensland."

With their freshly expanded agreement, Wisk will work with Skyports to figure out the best distribution of a viable vertiport network to serve all 4 million local residents. It's a good time to set down roots there, if Wisk wants to really make a name for itself: The region is in the midst of expansion and renovation on every front, readying the area to host the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. A successful, operable AAM network could go quite a way in seeding the concept of eVTOL operations to stakeholders around the world.

“Skyports has already been a strong partner to Wisk, and we are proud to build on the work we’re doing already, this time in Australia,” said Brian Yutko, Wisk CEO. “Wisk is committed to bringing safe, emissions-free aviation to Queensland, and this partnership will get us one step closer to making our goal a reality.”

Scott Smith, CEO of Council of Mayors said the region will do great with some new technology in its backyard. “It’s great to see South East Queensland continue to attract innovative technologies and investment. The Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) sector is an exciting new development for South East Queensland and is expected to contribute over $66 billion to the Australian Economy, or 3.1% of national GDP, by 2040. We’re excited to see this evolving industry bring high-value local jobs to SEQ and support improved services like medical and tourism. To secure our place as a global destination, we must be at the forefront of adopting emerging technologies.”
