Air Force Pilot Fatally Injured During Mission

F-16 Fighting Falcon Went Down Near An Air Base In The Middle East

A U.S. Air Force pilot was fatally injured Monday when his F-16 Fighting Falcon went down shortly after takeoff from an air base in the Middle East.

The pilot was Capt. William H. DuBois of New Castle, CO,. according to the Air Force Times, which reported that the airplane developed a mechanical problem and after departing on a sortie in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Capt. DuBois was attempting to return to the airfield when the plane went down. He was unable to eject.

DuBoise was assigned to the 77th Fighter Squadron, 20th Fighter Wing, Shaw Air Force Base SC, according to the Department of Defense.

In a video statement, 20th Fighter Wing Commander, Col. Stephen Jost said "Captain DuBoise was a patriot. He was willing to put his life on the line every day in service to his nation. He was a valued airman, pilot, of those he touched here at Shaw Air Force Base. He will be greatly missed."
