CAE Launches Tropos-6000XR Visual Image Generator For Civil Aviation Training

First Sim To Feature The Software Delivered To Switzerland

The latest generation of CAE's visual image generator (IG) for civil aviation training was unveiled Wednesday at the CAE User Conference. CAE Tropos-6000XR software provides a more immersive environment and an enhanced pilot training experience with new features leveraging the power of the latest NVIDIA commercial graphics processors.

The first simulator to be equipped with the new system is an Embraer 190 full-flight simulator (FFS) delivered to Swiss Aviation Training (SAT). "The CAE Tropos-6000XR visual system has demonstrated great reliability and the highest level of realism, greatly improving pilot training and safety. One feature that is particularly valuable is the precise and highly realistic replication of all airport lighting in both fine and foggy weather. This is especially useful in offering pilots optimum training for flight operations under adverse weather conditions." said David Birrer, Vice President Training Devices at Swiss Aviation Training (SAT).

"Swiss Aviation Training has been a long time customer of CAE's visual solution dating back to our CAE Maxvue visual system in the late '90s. The CAE Tropos-6000XR was selected by SAT for its realism and performance and because it leverages the full benefit of CAE's True Airport databases service," said Nick Leontidis, CAE's Group President, Civil Simulation Products, Training and Services. "As a global simulation solutions leader, we are always working towards enhancing the effectiveness of pilot training by improving the fidelity and the immersive experience of the training environment."

The new CAE Tropos-6000XR visual system features:

  • New light points rendering: CAE Tropos-6000XR takes advantage of today's GPU to provide high-resolution light points. This provides an effective training environment during critical training operations.
  • The CAE ACE utility which allows customers to customize each airport according to their preferences or training needs.
  • Shadow and lighting where scenes are enhanced with the addition of dynamic shadows generated by static planes and vehicles. Dynamic shadows correlate with the position of the sun and are cast on ground, buildings, moving vehicles and marshals.

CAE's image generators are based on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and provide a seamless upgrade path for any currently fielded CAE-built FFSs. The CAE Tropos-6000XR visual system is fully compatible with the CAE True Airport service which provides more than 250 up-to-date airport databases online via an internet portal.
