Airborne 04.05.19: Sling Pilot Academy, Apollo 11 at OSH, ADS-B

Also: National GA Award, Piper Aircraft Record, EU And Airbus, Hovering Drone Record

A new flight training academy has started teaching its first group of future commercial pilots, destined for the airlines.

The Sling Pilot Academy, based in Torrance, CA, is the brainchild of three aviation entrepreneurs, Wayne Todden, Jean d’Assonville, and Matt Liknaitzky. Equipped with all new Next-Generation Sling training aircraft, using the latest in modern powerplant and glass cockpit display technology, Sling Pilot Academy effectively wields the double-edged sword of combining proper expert preparation for tomorrow’s airline pilots, as well as providing cost-effective quality training. The Complete Professional Flight Training programs that may be undertaken in under 9 months, from first flight to course completion, are available now for under $63,000. Apollo 11 command module pilot Michael Collins will be the featured guest as EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019 commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission. EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019, the 67th annual Experimental Aircraft Association fly-in convention, is July 22-28. The FAA has placed a notice in the Federal Register regarding its policy for issuing ATC authorizations to persons seeking to operate aircraft that are not equipped with ADS-B Out equipment in ADS-B airspace after Jan. 1, 2020. The ADS-B Out final rule issued in 2010 requires aircraft flying in certain controlled airspace to be equipped with ADS-B avionics that meet the prescribed performance standards after Jan. 1, 2020. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
