New Zealand Couple Scammed On Grand Canyon Air Tour

Thought They Had Booked A Sightseeing Flight With A Company That Was Not Operating

A New Zealand couple is out nearly $1,200 after they booked a sightseeing flight at the Grand Canyon and the company claimed they did not receive a reservation.

Fox News reports that Peter and Sylvia Thornhill had paid for the tour as part of a "dream trip" to the U.S. nearly a year ago. They had even received a confirmation email that appeared to be from the tour company offering the flight. Mr. Thornhill even called to confirm the reservation on the day before the flight to confirm the reservation.

But when they arrived at Ogden-Hinckley Airport for the flight, there was no one there. Utah Airways co-founder David Story told television station KSL that the company has not flown for 18 months while they upgrade their aircraft. If a reservation is booked on their website, the customer's money is immediately refunded.

While some have accused Utah Airways of scamming the couple, Story says he never had any contact with the Thornhills and does not have their money.
