Ultralight Pilot Fatally Injured In Missouri Accident

Witnesses Said Wing Detached While Pilot Was Performing 'Stunts'

The pilot of an ultralight aircraft was fatally injured on Monday when the aircraft he was flying broke up in flight and impacted terrain.

The pilot was identified as Belgrade, MO resident Dean E. Warner. He was 68 years old. Missouri highway patrol police sergeant Al Nothum told the St. Louis Post Dispatch that witnesses said the pilot was "doing some stunt flying, doing some loops. There was a failure of a wing and the aircraft came down."

FAA accident records indicate that the aircraft was an unregistered Quicksilver.

Nothum said that federal officials do not normally investigate accidents involving ultralight aircraft.
