Orlan-30 UAV Shown Off at World Defense Show 2024

Russian Drone Presents Latest and Greatest of Oriental UAV Design

The World Defense Show in Saudi Arabia made the first to break cover on the Rosoboronexport Orlan-30 UAS, a kit that provides multiple drones and their accompanying control and logistics systems.

The Orlan-30 suite includes 4 containers, housing a pair of uncrewed aircraft, a launching device, and a ground remote control station. The whole thing includes all the necessary spares, accessories, and pieces needed to support operations, save for any boutique sensor systems desired by the end user. The control station features up to two operator automated workstations, with radio comms, antenna-feeders, and equipment for their maintenance, too. The whole kaboodle is equipped with an autonomous power supply, too.

The aircraft itself sports a 12.8-ft wingspan, 88-lb TOW, and 13-lb payload. In general, it can hit a ceiling of 13,000 feet, and hit a top speed around 80 knots. At cruise, it can offer up to 8 hours of endurance, quite nifty for such a small ISR-focused drone. The Orlan-30 in its standard trim can perform the usual roster of intel & surveillance tasks. Patrols, monitoring, tracking, and topographic assessment missions may be taken up by its optical sensor systems, but its inbuilt radio and infrared capabilities add an additional dimension to SIGINT and day/night performance.
