Pot, Kettle, Black... ATA?

Has The Airline Biz Looked In A Mirror Lately?

There have been of these lately... those "intriguing" little moments where you hear something said and are the pretty much forced to ponder whether those speaking have truly considered the import of their words.

Enter, President and CEO James May of the Air Transport Association, who is 'outraged' at the current FAA Reauthorization Act, House Resoution 915. Among its provisions, the bill would allow airports to raise another 2-billion dollars through increases in PFCs, or passenger facility charges.

In a recent op-ed, a defensive May acknowledges that airports have legitimate funding needs, but complains PFCs, "...too often have been used to support controversial projects of questionable value - like 'bike racks,' which would also be eligible for PFC spending under the bill..."

May adds, "Airports must resist treating air travelers as the equivalent of an ATM."

And he's exactly right. Why, we might wonder... what would happen if the airlines tried imposing a bunch of new fees on passengers, while executives earned huge bonuses as their companies lost billions?

Uh, wait a minute...

Moments like these? As the saying goes... Priceless.
