Wichita Aero Club Honors Senator Jerry Moran

2023 Wichita Aero Club Trophy Awarded to Friend of Aviation

The Wichita Aero Club held its handover ceremony recognizing the efforts of Kansas Senator Jerry Moran, thanking him for his efforts to assist aeronautics throughout his career.

The trophy gala also happened to raise more than $50,000 for educational initiatives, further bolstering Moran's assistance to the local ecosystem. Moran has served on both the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation and the Senate Committee on Appropriations, making this a multifaceted friend of the industry. His work has assisted his home state's continued aviation production, while bolstering home-grown research programs and developmental assistance for the next generation. Senator Moran was introduced by Wichita State Senior VP for Industry and Defense Programs John Tomblin, and the 2022 Wichita Aero Club trophy recipient.

“Not only has he provided tireless support for Wichita State University and NIAR, but on a grander scale, his commitment to the strength of our nation’s aerospace industry has led to monumental growth and development for Wichita, Kansas, and the nation," said Tomblin.

"If you look back in history, behind every monumental aviation and space accomplishment and milestone is a passionate advocate in Washington, D.C., and I know I’m not alone in my belief that Senator Moran’s efforts will mark his place in history. Every one of you sitting here tonight can say you were there to witness it firsthand. Senator Moran is a visionary. He has the incredible ability to maximize current opportunities while continuing to create new ones for the future," Tomblin continued.

He highlighted some of Moran's efforts, making note of his efforts to secure a new daily flight between Washington, DC and Wichita, Kansas. The American Airlines flights began in January of this year, a move that Moran said would amplify the state's competitiveness and allow more stakeholders to see what Kansas has to offer.

It's things like that, Tomblin said, that make Moran an indispensible part of Kansan aviation. "He continues to identify and successfully pursue opportunities to diversify the aerospace industry and strengthen our already robust supply chain. He recognizes how investments in workforce development fuel future growth. He understands our community’s capacity to globally compete in the next frontier of space. Senator Moran is a champion for aerospace, for Wichita, and for all of Kansas.”
