Comments Protected EAA Members Engaged In Both Manned Aircraft And Traditional Model Aircraft Ops

Many of the provisions that the EAA recommended to proposals to integrate UAS, commonly known as drones, into the national airspace system were included in the final Remote ID rule that was unveiled on Monday by the FAA. EAA-recommended provisions were designed to protect EAA members engaged in both manned aircraft and traditional model aircraft operations. The Remote ID rule will formally begin on February 28, 2021, with many aspects that do not become effective for as long as 18 to 30 months after the February 28 effective date.

On 16 December, Future & Active Pilot Advisors (FAPA) hosted their monthly Pilot Job Fair via virtual conference. The online event caught the attention of 536 job-hunting aviators, all of them interested in the existing job opportunities in an otherwise widely-accepted stalled-out aviation industry. Companies such as Delta Private Jets, Aquiline Drones, Atlas and Southern Air, iAero Airways, Piedmont Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, and industry newcomer XTRA Airways were present to speak with attendees and encourage them to apply immediately for open pilot positions within their ranks.

Program Assists Military Veterans in Becoming Pilots

DoT has released a final report on Forces to Flyers, a three-year research initiative offering interested military veterans an opportunity to earn commercial pilot’s licenses and flight instructor certifications. The report evaluates the initiative’s success in meeting project goals and provides lessons learned for future efforts to assist veterans in obtaining flight training to become airline pilots. The report also discusses pathways and opportunities for Americans seeking to become airline pilots, including flight training options.

CGAS Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk Helicopter Crew Hoisted The Four Boaters

The Coast Guard rescued four boaters Friday from Yamani Islets, 27 miles south of Sitka, Alaska. A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew hoisted the four boaters, a 50-year-old female, and her three children ages; 21, 17, and 13 from shore after their 15-foot vessel capsized. The helicopter crew transported them to Coast Guard Air Station Sitka where they were reported to be in stable condition.

The Flight Instructor Detected A Loss Of Engine Power And Assumed Control Of The Airplane

On December 13, 2020, about 1250 Pacific standard time, a Cessna 172, N5098E, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near San Diego, California. The flight instructor and student were not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight. The flight instructor reported that the purpose of the accident flight was for a student pilot to practice touch-and-go takeoff and landings. During the second takeoff on runway 28R, as the airplane was about 100-150 feet above ground level, the flight instructor detected a loss of engine power and assumed control of the airplane.

AD 2020-26-15 Requires Modifying (Replacing) The Clips, Shear Webs, And Angles At A Certain Rear Fuselage Area

The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2016-07-14, which applied to certain Airbus Model A319-111, -112, -113, -114, -115, -131, -132, and -133 airplanes; Model A320-211, -212, -214, -231, -232, and -233 airplanes; and Model A321-111, -112, -131, -211, -212, -213, -231, and -232 airplanes. AD 2016-07-14 required replacing the clips, shear webs, and angles, related investigative actions, and repair if necessary. This AD retains the actions of AD 2016-07-14, and requires modifying (replacing) the clips, shear webs, and angles at a certain rear fuselage area with new parts, as specified in a European Union Aviation Safety Agency

AD 2020-26-20 Requires Inspecting The Air Extraction Duct Installation

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Airbus Canada Limited Partnership Model BD-500-1A10 and BD-500-1A11 airplanes. This AD was prompted by a report that during installation on the final assembly line, a foreign object damage (FOD) protective end cap was not removed from an extraction duct of the crew oxygen system. The protective end cap must be removed to prevent a build-up of oxygen under the flight deck floor, which is a fire risk. This AD requires inspecting the air extraction duct installation to determine if a protective end cap is installed, and removing any protective end cap found.
